Is this Course for me?
Whether you are a budding artist or professional designer, this painted floral workshop is not to miss! Learn the techniques needed to paint effortless floral illustrations which will translate beautifully into printed fashion, furnishings and stationery design. With not one but two industry experts on hand, the full day is set to be quite the experience; from experimentation to professional print design in just 1 day.
Who is Jess Preist?
Jess has been a Printed Textile Designer for 18 years and works from her home studio in Buckinghamshire. Specialising in floral patterns for fashion and furnishing, work has sold to Anthropologie, Vera Wang, Toast and Calvin Klein as well as a number of high street stores.
Following graduating from Winchester School of Art in 2000 Jess began working in a top Print Design Studio in London. “A visiting lecturer once told me “if you can paint a flower you will always be able to find a job in textile design.” “they were not wrong as I have been working in the industry for over 17 years and love to create beautiful floral designs on a daily basis”.
Jess has a passion for sharing her knowledge and has built up a quite a large following on Instagram where she first began sharing painting tips. She now teaches workshops to design teams from some of the most recognisable names in Fashion, Homewear and Textile Design from Jacques Vert, Next Plc, Monsson to Canvas, Design Union and Nancy Parker Design studio to name a few. Jess is the name in watercolour, painted florals Jess and has worked with some of the best studios in the industry and we are lucky to have her here at the CAD for Fashion Academy.
What will I learn?
The morning will be spent with our resident print expert; Stephen Rose. Whilst you are feeling fresh and ready to learn; Stephen will take you through the most efficient and effective ways to digitise, clean up, manipulate, recolour and repeat hand-painted artwork in Adobe Photoshop. Learn about print layout and leave with the skills (and your notes!) required to apply these techniques to your own designs. Stephen has some fantastic artwork for you to practice with and we will also be giving you an exclusive preview of the new Adobe Textile Designer Plugin.
You will then spend the afternoon with the lovely Jess Priest learning and practising watercolour techniques surrounded by beautiful floral arrangements and likeminded industry professionals. With the guiding hand of Jess, this workshop will focus on skills required to create effortless and gestural looking blooms. The aim of the workshop is to gain confidence in your own unique handwriting through the medium of watercolour ink. Suitable for beginner to intermediate levels, the workshop covers several topics including materials and application of the mediums. Jess will guide you throughout and show you how to achieve paintings with light and depth, using simple brush strokes to create flower and foliage compositions.
Our courses are 100% practical, we will work at your pace and with your priorities in mind. The small class size will ensure you get plenty of one on one attention to make sure you get exactly what you need from the day.
