Fashion Launch Event Attracts Designers to Derby  The recent launch of an innovative new fashion design studio and academy in Derby attracted fashion start-ups, students, established brands and experienced designers from across the Midlands and the North West, all eager to be amongst the first to experience what CAD for Fashion has to offer.  Created by Derby University alumnus Erica Horne, CAD for Fashion was launched to fulfil a demand for fashion-focused training aimed at anyone using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop specifically for fashion and print design. An accomplished designer herself, as well as a lecturer and tutor, Erica identified a need for courses that teach designers of all levels of skill, competency and experience the best and most efficient way to use this software for fashion design and collaboration, through understanding the techniques and making the most of the shortcuts the software offers.  While such courses are popular in London and the South, there’s little available to designers north of the capital as most focus on using the software for graphic design. That’s why, when word got out about CAD for Fashion’s launch, prospective clients were happy to travel from as far away as Manchester and Leicester for the evening event which officially marked the opening of the business and its exciting array of courses.  Lecturers from Nottingham Trent and Birmingham Universities mingled with industry professionals from lingerie, childrenswear and menswear brands as well as local brands, up-and-coming new labels and students taking their first steps into the industry. The event was a great success and Erica is excited about the future as CAD for Fashion begins to establish itself as the go-to training hub for designers in the Midlands and beyond.  “There was a real buzz at the event – everyone was excited about what we’re offering at CAD for Fashion and enjoyed the opportunity to meet with other industry professionals too. I also introduced fashion print and graphics expert, Stephen Rose, owner of Now! Design and co-founder of GraphicModa, who will be adding to our current course portfolio with a range of industry-focused print, textile and graphics courses aimed at achieving high-quality commercial results. With over 20 years’ industry experience Stephen’s knowledge and enthusiasm is a great asset!”  Feedback from the launch was so positive that Erica is already planning another event at the studio to enable fashion industry professionals to get together to share experience, knowledge and insights. Andy and Ashley, owners of a new start-up brand from Manchester who have already attended one of CAD for Fashion’s courses, commented on how much they’d benefit from attending the launch: “We met some great people and got some priceless advice. We are both very excited about our future.”.  Find out more about what CAD for Fashion has to offer here.
